We all love a holiday, whether you are climbing mountains or lounging by the sea. I have done my fair share of travelling. Over the years I have established a basic set of pure essential oils that I always take with me either mixed as blends or just the neat oils.
The oils are:-
Organic H.A. Lavender
Organic Tea Tree
Organic Roman Chamomile
Organic Peppermint Oil
Organic Aloe Vera
Organic Rose Otto Hydrolat
Organic Lotion
Organic Arnica Oil
Dilution of Pure Essential Oils
3% for Adults
1% or less for young children < 8
Using essential oils neat see notes below
You can buy any of these oils via www.usthemandu.co.uk
Common conditions and problems you or your family members might encounter while on your holiday or travelling for work. Tried and tested on our family over the years. I always have these or a few of them in my ruck sack when hiking.
Sunburn
I always forget to wear my hat and consequently burn my head. A mix of Aloe Vera and Lavender (ideally add some Chamomile) will give instant relief and in the long run help the skin repair itself.
Travel Sickness/Nausea
Not a nice way to start your holiday. A few drops of Peppermint oil on a tissue and inhaled as you travel may save your start to your holiday. If you have some add Lemon to the mix.
Small Cuts and Mild Abrasions
Especially likely on activity holidays and even more so with children. Clean the wound and apply some Aloe Vera mixed with Lavender and Tea Tree. If you do not have the Aloe Vera use the essential oils neat or diluted in water. Do not use heavy creams or lotions.
For serious wounds seek medical help as soon as possible.
Bruises
In a word Arnica. It works so well. Simply rub in some Arnica Oil as often as you wish. It will speed up healing and relieve discomfort.
Insect Bites and stings
As soon as possible rub in some diluted or neat Tea Tree and repeat as and when required. Add Lavender or Chamomile if you wish.
Headaches
Add Peppermint and Lavender to some Aloe Vera or a Lotion and rub into the forehead as often as you wish. You may also make a compress by diluting some Peppermint into water and soaking the towel or cloth then applying the compress to the forehead.
Keeping Fresh
Always take a small bottle of Rose Otto Hydrolat with a mist spray head. use it to refresh yourself by spraying your face when you feel the need. It is delightful. Also can be used to clean and soothe eye sties, and minor wounds (Works just as well on Dogs)
